The Navajo
Food/Agricultural Collaborative

Welcomes You

The Navajo Food/Agriculture Collaborative is an alliance of Navajo and Hopi organizations and businesses  that seek to build momentum toward solutions to challenges in the food/agriculture economy on the Navajo Nation.  The solutions foster growth through the leadership of Native voices from producers, non-profit organizations, business, and government.

Our Roots

Making Change Possible

Many of the most important teachings, lessons, and philosophies that orient Diné perspective on life are rooted in traditional teachings around foods. Not only are the teachings important guidelines for life, but provide practical knowledge of Diné environments, ecology, climate, social interaction, health and wellness.

Since the beginnings of the Diné in North America, food and agricultural practices have been the backbone of Diné culture. Over the course of hundreds of years practices of raising food and ranching have been central to culture and survival but have been stripped away by colonialism and have had modest resurgence.

We believe that food/agriculture are essential elements of Navajo sovereignty, elements that must be fostered in ways that honor and preserve traditions, but that also make food a backbone of a stable economy on the Navajo Nation.

How We Support

  • We look to identify and leverage the work that producers, businesses, non-profits and  governments are doing to build a knowledge base and to develop impactful projects that

    • Serve the interests of each of our Collaborative Members, and

    • Address the interests and needs of the broader Food/Agriculture community.

  • We produce and curate information of value to food/agriculture and host discussions.

  • We work to develop and implement projects that provide results for producers and Navajo          and Hopi communities.
